Peugeot's Style Manifeto Gets to 5 (With Image Gallery)

With the SR1, Peugeot proved to the world that it can get out of the design rut it was seen to be stuck in for a few years.
The SR1's design showed what Peugeot designers were capable of doing by giving the brand a more upscale look without having to sacrifice its Feline looks. Only a month after the launch of the SR1, Peugeot has released images of the 5 (Concept).

The 5 by Peugeot concept, is set to replace both the 407 and the 607 sedans with a one size fits all sedan that is geared towards both everyday use and luxury executive travel. More after the Jump

 This is what Peugeot has to say about it;

"With its dimensions (length: 4.86 m), its balanced proportions, its personality and the elegance and dynamism of its style, 5 by Peugeot satisfies the growing demand for quality, performance and modernity expressed by the customers of large, high-status saloons.
Offering the promise of new sensations in accord with environmental demands, the 5 by Peugeot concept car incorporates Peugeot HYbrid4 diesel hybrid technology: 147 kW (200 bhp), four wheel drive, emissions of
99 g/km CO2 and a fuel consumption of 3.8 liters/100 km (or zero in electric mode)."

Peugeot is now considered the leader in low emission vehicles, and its working extra hard to keep this reputation applicable across its whole line-up.

As to the 5 by Peugeot, the car which will most probably be know in the future as the 508, or even 509, it sets new design standards for the competition. True the 407 and 607 were nothing exceptional, and the main fear for those who like the concept is that the avantguarde looks might be toned down by the time it makes it to production.  Something rather usual of the Peugeot brand, over-promising on the concepts and then delivering rather mellow versions in production form, nothing bad, but a bit disappointing. This is something that has got to stop if Peugeot wants to move 3 places up the world manufacturer rankings in the next 5 years.

As for now, indulge in this  beauty, and hope that it will hit the streets looking something like that. we should note that compared to the SR1, the 5 by Peugeot looks to be the more logical design, but expect both fascia to still be watered down to get rid of the Aston Martin look on the SR1 and the Audi'ish grille on the 5.
